Dr. Paul Diegidio, MD

Plastic Surgeon

Paul Diegidio MD “Dr. D” trained in general surgery at the University of South Carolina in Columbia SC, followed by a plastic surgery/burn reconstruction research fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this research year he was accepted into the categorical plastic surgery residency at UNC, where he completed 4 additional years of residency dedicated to plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgery. He served as a chief resident during his final year at UNC.

He enjoys both reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, as well as non-surgical interventions with injectables and skin-care. He also enjoys participating in medical mission trips to bring burn, craniofacial and reconstructive expertise to patients in underserved areas, both at home and abroad.

Dr. Diegidio considers it a privilege to take care of his patients, and enjoys developing, and tailoring treatment plans based on individual needs. Moreover he tries to replace the traditional doctor-patient relationship of clipboards, intake forms, and waiting rooms with personalized care, and conversations. He uses the latest technology in the office to facilitate a patient centered experience.

Katie Barnes, RN, BSN, CPSN

Clinical Director, Nurse Injector

Katie Barnes, BSN, RN, CPSN is a South Carolina native. She began her nursing career in 2007 at Palmetto Health Richland (now Prisma Health) in Columbia, SC. She developed a passion for plastic and reconstructive surgery and moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a career as a Division Nurse for the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team in the Department of Surgery. Her ambition for excellence led her to attend national meetings, and obtain additional training as a nurse injector. In the fall of 2019 she joined the SCP team as the clinical director and nurse injector.

At SCP Katie works with each individual patient to make sure they feel respected, and heard. She spends countless hours with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to make sure they fully understand their options for breast reconstruction. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, Gamecock football, and discovering new favorite wines.

Katie also staffs her own injectable clinic to provide outstanding service to patients who want to look and feel their best. Whether you are new to skin care, injectables, and cosmetic plastic surgery, or this is something you’ve done for a long time, Katie has the expertise you want. We’re so happy to have her as part of the SCP family, and we know you will love her too!

Sherito Smith, BHA

Office Director

Sherito Smith, BHA, has been working in the healthcare industry since 1999. She started her career at Peninsula Regional Medical Center functioning as an Operating Room Secretary for three years. She then moved to a private orthopedic group where she worked as the Surgery Scheduling Supervisor for 12 years. She spent the last five and a half years working at the University of North Carolina in the Operating Room Administration Department, as well as an Administration Specialist for the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, functioning as an Administrative Specialist Lead Worker within the Department of Surgery. She functioned as the Chair for the Administrative Professionals Committee for UNC in 2016. She also recently completed a degree in Healthcare Administration, and achieved a teaching certificate for Diversity & Inclusion from the National Coalition Building Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Sherito brings outstanding support for their needs of SCPAS patients. She frequently talks about striving for “total patient satisfaction” where expectations are not only met, but are exceeded. Her passion for helping others began as a foster child liaison where she would guide children through the system, taking note of their every need and addressing their concerns. She used this passion to develop her administrative skills so that she can help every single patient feel cared for. She nurtures the members of her team and promotes a happy working environment with both the office staff, and the physicians she works with to ensure their patients feel a seamless level of care across the board. In short, we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of the SCP team, and are excited for you to meet her!
